Scribble and Strum

It Is Breath.

12/22/08 05:05 pm - "A Poison Tree", by William Blake

Great poem, is all.

A Poison Tree

I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.

And I watered it in fears,
Night and morning with my tears;
And I sunned it with smiles,
And with soft deceitful wiles.

And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright.
And my foe beheld it shine.
And he knew that it was mine,

And into my garden stole
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning glad I see
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

Last night, I spent four hours in the Brattle Theatre with a friend, immersed in an amazing double feature: The Best of Ottawa Animation Festival 2006 and "Daydream Nation: Swedish Animation". Wow--what a huge assortment. We had a lot to digest, but time flew. My words won't do the best of these films justice, so I'm going to sniff around the internet to share a few of my favorites. Here's one that really grabbed me--"Tyger" by Guilherme Marcondes (based on William Blake's poem "The Tyger"):

The short unfortunately loses something when shrunk to YouTube size.
Luckily, its creators offer it in a variety of sizes here.
I've got to say, "Tyger" was pretty breathtaking on the big screen.

More soon.
